TextileGenesis, a Bengaluru-based blockchain platform, has formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Cotton Association (ICA) to enhance digital collaboration and advocate for ethical trade and sustainability within the fashion and textile sector. The platform, a facet of the Lectra Group, specialises in fashion and textile traceability. It utilises innovative technology to trace the entirety of the sustainable textile supply chain by digitally mapping materials. Through the platform, reliable and secure data exchange and tracking occur throughout the materials’ lifecycle, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable and transparent industry.
This pioneering traceability mechanism encompasses both ends of the textile value chain and is backed by a network of fabric certification partners. The partnership with ICA means that all stakeholders in the cotton supply chain will be alerted if they are potentially engaging with a company deemed unsafe by ICA.
Amit Gautam, the CEO and founder of TextileGenesis, emphasises the significance of this collaboration, highlighting ICA’s influential role in the cotton trade arena. He emphasises that ICA’s involvement in trade arbitrations and insights into non-compliant companies adds a crucial dimension to TextileGenesis’ risk assessment metrics, providing valuable alerts to their users.
Previously, TextileGenesis joined forces with Renewcell in May 2023 to establish a comprehensive traceability agreement, ensuring full pulp-to-retail traceability for Renewcell’s CIRCULOSE® recycled raw material across the textile supply chain.
