SNV Netherlands Development Organisation, a non-profit international development group, is set to leverage a collaborative approach to the health and well-being of the workers in the readymade garment sector of Bangladesh.
In this regard, SNV Netherlands signed six partnership agreements with trade bodies and NGOs including Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS), ILO-Better Work Bangladesh, Dutch-Bangla Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DBCCI), Fair Wear Foundation (FWF), Phulki, Sajida Foundation and UCEP Bangladesh at a hotel in capital Dhaka on December 14, 2017.
The collaboration is established under “Working with Women-2” project implemented by SNV Netherlands with financial support from Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN).
The project will work with 200 garment factories through different mechanisms and platforms to ensure access to health facilities, including sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) of garment workers.
According to the agreements, for the next four years, SNV Netherlands will follow a 3-tier approach; Educating the garment management on the policies related to SRHR and health for workers; Scaling 3 IB models and fine-tune them to a more concrete shape for adoption across the garment sector; and Engaging more and more private companies to design affordable and accessible solutions and service package for the garment workers.
Addressing the ceremony, representatives from the participating organisations expressed their commitment and willingness to work together with SNV Netherlands in improving the health and for the welfare of the garment workers.
Founded in 1965, SNV Netherlands is an organisation that works in agriculture, energy and water, sanitation & hygiene, and has been working in Bangladesh since 2006 to help turn poverty into prosperity.
