Lenzing Group teams up with Italian chemicals manufacturer CPL Prodotti Chimici and fashion brand Calzedonia’s Oniverse, to introduce biobased acetic acid for fabric dyeing.
Produced as a by-product in Lenzing’s biorefinery, biobased acetic acid boasts a carbon footprint over 85 per cent lower than its fossil-based counterpart. Derived from wood, it is a versatile product used across industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and textiles, including applications in washing, dyeing, and finishing.
This partnership with Oniverse will not only utilise Lenzing’s cellulosic fibres but also adopt biobased acetic acid in its dyeing processes. According to Elisabeth Stanger, senior director at Lenzing, “This alliance highlights the trust in our biorefinery products and their contribution to sustainable industrial processes.”
Marco Lanzetti, owner of CPL Prodotti Chimici, expressed pride in being the first licensed partner for Lenzing’s biobased acetic acid, emphasizing their long-standing collaboration since the 1990s. He added, “We’re excited to promote Lenzing’s brand and sustainability efforts to customers like Oniverse in the textile market.” This collaboration underscores the growing commitment to eco-friendly practices in the textile industry.
