Kappahl presents the outcomes of its challenging objectives in three primary areas in this year’s sustainability report: social sustainability, climate and environment, and transparency and participation. In addition to a 15 per cent decrease in carbon emissions from the previous year, 86 per cent of Kappahl’s clothing is now made with certified and/or traceable materials, which have a lower environmental impact than those used in conventional production. In 2020, 100 per cent of cotton was already attained. In an effort to make half of the range circulable by 2026, the Kappahl and Newbie brands are also increasing the amount of circular products they provide.
Increasing consumer knowledge of Kappahl’s sustainability initiatives is another top priority. Customers will view Kappahl as a fashion brand that values inclusivity and diversity and is safe and dependable. This applies to the entire operation, including marketing.
In terms of transparency, the launch of the traceability tool TrusTrace in 2022 marked a significant turning point. This effort was then expanded in 2023 to encompass all of Kappahl’s denim. Kappahl hopes to achieve complete traceability from fibre to garment throughout the whole range by the following year.
“Transparency is a key factor in fulfilling our higher purpose, to create a responsible fashion world. Traceability holds companies accountable for workers’ rights and is an important tool in navigating an industry with significant challenges regarding social sustainability. Insight into our value chain enables us as a company, as well as our customers, to make sustainable decisions, both in terms of human rights and the environment,” says Sandra Roos, Vice President Sustainability at Kappahl Group.
Apart from introducing a fresh service guarantee and enhancing proficiency in conveying and elucidating sustainability to clients, there has been a surge in pre-owned merchandise in retail establishments and experimentation with diverse methods to prolong clothing longevity.
Founded in 1953 in Gothenburg, Sweden, the Kappahl Group is a leading fashion chain in the Nordics, with around 330 Kappahl and Newbie stores in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Poland and the UK, and online in more than 20 markets throughout Europe and Asia.
