On Monday (30th October) in Hemayetpur, Savar, a confrontation between police and garment workers from various readymade garment factories resulted in at least 15 workers sustaining injuries.
According to Dipak Chandra Saha, the Officer-in-Charge of Savar Police Station, the workers had launched an attack on several garment factories located at the Padmar Intersection in Hemayetpur, as they were demanding a minimum basic salary of Taka 23,000.
Upon receiving this information, the police swiftly arrived at the scene and resorted to using tear gas shells to disperse the workers, leading to a clash that left 15 workers injured.
The altercation involved a pursuit and a counter-pursuit, and the area remained tense due to the aftermath of the clash.
In an effort to prevent any further violence, additional police forces have been deployed in the Savar and Ashulia garment factory regions.
