Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Faruque Hassan has underlined that readymade garment factories nationwide would be closed under section 13 (1) of the labour law in the event of unrest or attacks by outsiders or workers.
This is as per media reports, which added his statement came after a meeting with owners of RMG factories in Ashulia at the BGMEA office in Uttara recently.
Section 13 (1) of the labour law allows employers to close down either wholly or partially any section or establishment in the event of an illegal strike in any part of the establishment.
Faruque Hassan emphasized the commitment to shut down factories facing unrest or attacks by workers or outsiders, urging all factory owners to adhere to section 13 (1) of the labour law in such situations.
Bangladesh’s garment industry has witnessed garment workers’ protests in the last few days in connection with minimum wage.
