
The apex garment makers’ body in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA),has underlined that the apparel industry is steadfast in sustaining the momentum of workplace safety while also developing its capacities to retain competitiveness in the changing business landscape.
According to media reports, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made this observation while addressing a seminar organised by Particip GmbH on behalf of GIZ, in Dhaka recently, in which amongst others were, reportedly, present senior management representatives of the BGMEA and BKMEA (Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association), and participating member factories in the Communication Component of the STILE project, which intends to contribute to improve compliance with its awareness-raising, information and education campaigns.
“…learning lessons from the past, Bangladesh garment industry has made unprecedented progress, particularly in workplace safety,” reportedly, claimed the BGMEA President, adding, “We have also made an exemplary stride in environmental sustainability…”
