The textile mill owners of Faisalabad have condemned the Government of Pakistan for issuing 50 per cent high electricity bills.
The mill owners have now threatened to go on an indefinite strike in 500 textile units of the city if the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) refuses to withdraw the inflated bill.
The owners of the mills recently displayed a protest banner outside the headquarters of FESCO.
Reportedly, the withholding tax was increased to 6 per cent in the bill in addition to increasing the cost of electricity units, which led to the resentment.
FESCO has, however, said that the increase in electricity bills was done following the directions of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).
The textile industry contributes 57 per cent of total export volumes and 8.5 per cent of the GDP of Pakistan.
