UK-based Pentland Brands, which owns sports, outdoor and fashion labels such as Speedo, Berghaus, Mitre, Boxfresh and Canterbury of New Zealand, has announced the acquisition of Endura, the cycling apparel brand based in Scotland. The details of the transaction have not been revealed yet.
However, any change in the leadership will not come into force and founders Jim McFarlane and Pamela Barclay will continue to serve Endura as Directors. Also, the business will continue to operate from Livingston, Scotland.
Endura’s clothes are worn by top road, mountain bike and triathlon teams and riders. The acquisition move will help the Scottish cycle clothing brand to expand its reach among a wider range of customers.
Currently, Endura employs approximately 180 workers including 100 at its Livingston head office and production unit.
“Jim, Pam and their team will be given access to our extensive resources and network as a global brand management company, we can offer. The acquisition of the Scottish brand is a great addition to our portfolio,” Chirag Patel, Chief Operating Officer, Pentland Brands was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the company.
On the other hand, Endura too feels Pentland as an obvious choice for it to be part of the world-class brands under the umbrella of a family-owned company.
The Pentland Group also owns 45 per cent of shares in JD Sports, which has 600 stores across the UK.
