The e-commerce market size in Bangladesh, which in 2021 was about Taka 56,870 crore, will be around Taka 1.5 lakh crore by 2026 even as business-to-customer e-commerce segment is expected to grow by 17.61 per cent on an annual basis.
This was underlined by Dublin-based trade research institution ResearchAndMarkets.com, as per reports.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh, reportedly, maintained the report ‘fairly illustrates the overall e-commerce landscape in Bangladesh’ even as Chief Marketing Officer of leading local e-commerce firm Daraz Bangladesh Md Tajdin Hassan on his part, reportedly, stated easy shopping and payments will help drive up the market growth as extensive customer service will play a vital role.
It may be mentioned here that as per a report by the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-Cab) last year, there were more than 2,500 e-commerce platforms in the country (Bangladesh), of which 1 per cent are large businesses, 4 per cent medium and 95 per cent small businesses, while around 1,600 e-commerce entrepreneurs were registered with e-Cab as its members.
