Nike and the Indian fashion brand NorBlack NorWhite have worked together to create a collection that honours Indian workmanship and history. The line, which features the bandhani tie-dye process in athletic apparel, is the first time Nike has ever collaborated with an Indian brand. Through the promotion of Indian culture on a worldwide scale, thepartnership seeks to reclaim space and advance representation.
In addition to a crossbody bag, the Nike x NorBlack NorWhite line includes sportswear with bandhani-inspired patterns on hoodies, cropped tees, tanks, bras, shorts and tights for women. The Air Max Craze, Motiva, Pegasus 41 and Calm slide are among the four shoe designs in the collection.
The brand’s cofounder, Mriga Kapadiya, states, “Our NorBlack NorWhite journey began with a deep admiration for the crafts practices of India and the people who bring them to life. We hope each piece inspires women to draw into their own athletic mindset while navigating everyday life in India and around the world. This collection shines a light on the rigour, dedication and ancestral knowledge that is rooted in Indian culture.”
Amrit Kumar, a cofounder of NorBlack NorWhite, states, “We want women to feel comfortable in their own skin, wherever they are in their journey, when they wear pieces from our new collection with Nike. With the colours, we want them to feel calm and collected, and with the patterns, we want them to be prepared to face challenges and develop resilience and strength.”
This new collection will be promoted with a colourful campaign that includes cricket players Shafali Verma and Jemimah Rodrigues, wrestler Anshu Malik and sprinter Priya Mohan.
