Nike will be donating 32,500 pairs of its Air Zoom Pulse shoe, to the frontline workers battling COVID-19 around the globe.
The range of shoes is specifically designed for medical professionals.
The company will be collaborating with nonprofit organisation Good360 in the USA and local organisations across Europe for the distribution of these shoes.
The medical staff in Laakdal, London, Barcelona, Los Angeles, New York City, Memphis, Milan and Paris will be receiving Air Zoom Pulse. The shoe launched last year is retailed at around US $ 120.
The company, recognising the amount of physical activity that is required by a medical professional, has designed these shoes to provide comfort to the medical staff.
A medical professional job requires hours of standing and walking. For instance, a nurse walks around for four to five miles in the course of 12-hour shift with minimal time to sit. For a better understanding of the requirements, designing and product testing were done at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital located in Portland, Oregon. The team learned the rigorous daily amount of physical and mental efforts needed while performing the job.
The Air Zoom Pulse shoe was therefore designed to encounter these issues with simplicity of design in mind. The shoes can be easily cleaned and worn. It features great fit and cushioning that provides comfort while walking.
