John Lewis has put forth a proposal to create 48 new jobs and restore buying and merchandising leadership posts in the fashion and home industries, with a consultation period ending in October 2024.
Peter Ruis, the John Lewis Executive Director, returned to the company in 2024 after an 11-year hiatus, and while some of the current roles—designated as “less than 20″—may be eliminated, this is all part of the transformation plan he set in place.
Ruis was instrumental in turning around the fortunes of John Lewis during his eight years and nine months there as Executive Buying and Brand Director (January 2005 to September 2013).
With 80 news brands already launched in 2024 and more to come, John Lewis’s product offering is getting better. In addition, the updated structure and suggested investment will benefit the company’s employees, “allowing them to focus on their specific area of expertise, while providing clearer career progression.”
A John Lewis spokesperson said, “As we look to turbo-charge our business and offer the best possible products to customers, we’ve proposed some changes to our buying and merchandising teams – including the creation of nearly 50 new roles.”
