Net-A-Porter director Kate Benson has been appointed as Harvey Nichols’ new chief merchant, effective immediately. After working in the buying teams of YOOX Net-a-Porter Group (YNAP) for the past seven years, most recently as the buying director, Benson joins the company.
In addition to having a “proven capability of designing and delivering on elevated product strategies,” the department store chain claimed that Benson has solid connections with a number of luxury companies.
“Kate’s profound knowledge of the global luxury and fashion market makes her a respected leader to further evolve our buying strategy at Harvey Nichols,” stated Julia Goddard, chief executive of Harvey Nichols. “Her prior experience in senior roles will be crucial in improving the client experience and propelling the company’s expansion. We are ecstatic to have her join us at a critical juncture in the fashion and luxury industries.”
“I’m excited to contribute my experience to shape the business’ buying strategy, build strong partnerships, and deliver exceptional customer experiences,” Benson continued, referring to the brand’s growth and innovation goals.
Following Harvey Nichols’ appointment of stylist and former Topshop director Kate Phelan to the newly created position of creative director at the beginning of last month, Benson was appointed.
