Nearly a year after putting the high-end fashion platform into administration, Frasers Group is thinking about relaunching Matches Fashion as an exclusive members’ club.
According to a report, the owner of Sports Direct, which purchased the company in a pre-pack transaction, has prepared plans to transform it into the “Soho House of retail.”
Last April, the retail behemoth paid US $ 25.32 million to take the Matches name and intellectual property out of administration. Matches’ 250 employees and US $ 106.62 million worth of stock were not included in the pre-pack sale.
It happened shortly after Frasers said that it would be “too much” to save the company in its current situation and placed it into administration.
Frasers is already pitching luxury companies on its ambitions for Matches, which include relaunching the website by the end of this year as a members-only fashion and leisure concept.
In addition to early access to exclusive products, individualised shopping, and events in its London-based stores, the ideas propose that a committee of founder members and “global tastemakers” would encourage members to join.
It is anticipated that Matches will return in the spring or summer of 2026 with an emphasis on womenswear, before branching out into menswear and other international markets.
