US-based e-commerce website eBay has filed a lawsuit against Amazon accusing the online giant of infiltrating its internal messaging system and stealing its top sellers.
The lawsuit accuses Amazon of having “perpetrated a scheme to infiltrate and exploit eBay’s internal member email system” over the past few years. It further says that the representatives of Amazon got on to the eBay site as account holders and then sent mails to the sellers on eBay to sell their goods on Amazon.com.
eBay called the act as “orchestrated, coordinated, worldwide campaign” by its rival company.
The activity dates back to 2015 and involved dozens of Amazon representatives, who sent hundreds of emails, the lawsuit says. It further accuses Amazon of intentional interference with contractual relations and economic relations as well as fraud and violation of the California penal and business and professions codes.
eBay, in its lawsuit, seeks a court order barring the e-commerce retail giant from getting into its systems, restitution to eBay of Amazon’s alleged “unlawful proceeds,” plus unspecified damages
The two online shopping websites have been competing for both sellers and consumers for years now.
