Birla Cellulose is pursuing the creation of viscose fibres reinforced with graphene for use in textile production.
A joint development agreement has been signed by the manufacturer, Grasim Industries Ltd.’s cellulosic fibres division, and Bhilwara Group Companies. Birla will collaborate with two Bhilwara departments as part of the partnership:
Synthetic graphite and graphene derivatives are the speciality of TACC Limited, an innovation-driven business venture centred on the advanced materials sector.
One of the biggest textile producers in India, RSWM Limited, is dedicated to innovation in the creation of yarn and fabric.
A single sheet of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice, graphene is renowned for its remarkable strength, conductivity, and light weight. Graphene-enhanced textiles are renowned for their resilience to wear, durability, and heat control.
As part of the partnership, Birla Cellulose will receive graphene derivatives from TACC Limited, TACC’s graphene derivatives will be incorporated by Birla Cellulose into the viscose fibre manufacturing process and Birla’s graphene-enhanced viscose fibres will be used by RSWM Limited to make textiles.
This partnership will assess textile innovation by incorporating graphene’s exceptional qualities into textiles to improve sustainability, performance, and durability, said Birla in an announcement.
