Depop is introducing a new capability for creating descriptions that uses generative AI and picture recognition to speed up the process of creating resale listings.
By uploading a single photo, customers can utilise the technology to generate a listing description and complete item data such as category, colour, sub-category, and brand.
With the use of pertinent hashtags and an embodiment of how vendors on the marketplace define and portray their inventory, it has been created to be true to the distinct tone of the Depop community.
To generate a description, sellers only need to use the selling button to upload an image of the item and select ‘Generate Description’. The description can then be used, modified, or removed as needed.
The new capability for generating descriptions is part of a broader set of AI and machine-learning improvements that Depop has achieved in the last 12 months.
The listing process has sped up for sellers thanks to predictive recommendations and pricing guidance powered by optimised language and vision models.
Concurrently, improvements in search and algorithmic customisation have made it easier for consumers to recognise pertinent new communities and trends, resulting in more personalised recommendations for them.
Rafe Colburn, Chief Product & Technology Officer at Depop, said, “We know that writing a description for an item in a blank text box can be a time-consuming part of listing, for both new and regular Depop users.”
