Worn Again Technologies (WAT) has announced the launch of the Swiss Textile Recycling Ecosystem.
The initiative will support the development of a circular economy based on WAT’s innovative polymer recycling technology by bringing together key industry players from across the entire textile value chain.
The establishment of the Swiss Textile Recycling Ecosystem is a significant step forward in the scaling of WAT’s recycling process technology.
The Swiss Textile Recycling Ecosystem is a collaboration of fabric and textile manufacturers, waste collectors and sorters, retailers, brand owners and technology providers. All of these parties will work together to make their shared vision for the sector’s sustainability a reality.
The collaborators will supply various types of textile wastes to WAT’s demonstration plant, which will process 1,000 tonnes of material per year.
Following advanced chemical processing, virgin-like recycled fibres will be delivered to the same industry players for use in the production of new high-quality fabrics.
WAT’s first demonstration plant in Winterthur, Switzerland, will begin construction this year.
Commenting on the launch, Erik Koep, CEO, Worn Again Technologies, stated “This leading group of like-minded organisations will help to shift the fashion industry from traditional, linear product lifecycle models to eco-conscious, circular material management. We believe that zero waste strategies can only become a reality if the entire sector is committed to acting as a whole.”
