Cotton Seed Distributors (CSD), Australian supplier of elite cotton varieties, has released new crop modeling tool Nicknamed ‘BARRY’ (Biometric Agronomy for Realising Representative Yield).
The tool will help cotton producers estimate potential yield throughout the growing season.
The tool offers snapshot of metrics at each of the growing stage including first flower, cut-out, flowering progression and end of season taking into account different factors like region, climate, production type and variety.
The novelty developed in collaboration with CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation) uses the agronomic database collected from CSD’s Ambassador Network and Variety Trial programmes.
It leverages CSIRO’s machine learning algorithms to calculate the estimated potential yield with reliable accuracy. Moreover, CSD partnered with different cotton growers for conducting field trial tests that evaluate the accuracy of the programme.
Furthermore, BARRY snapshots and real time information would help in making better informed decisions at any time and therefore helping them improve the final product quality.
It takes into account the stage of the crop and seasonal condition in real time, providing valuable data for a grower or consultant to make management decisions.
