Italian Marzotto Group, a leading textile company, has announced to partner with Sweden-based Polygiene to use ViralOff application in its natural fibre textiles.
The ViralOff treatment offered by Polygiene will now be used in wool, linen and cotton products of Marzotto Group with an aim to ‘relaunch’ the fashion industry.
ViralOff Treatment is claimed to kill over 99 per cent of viruses in around 2 hours as per an ISO 18184:2019 test. This anti-viral treatment will now be used by all the divisions of Marzotto Group – Marzotto Fabrics, Fratelli Tallia di Delfino, Marlane, Estethia/G.B.Conte, Guabello, Redaelli, Opera Piemontese, Tessuti di Sondrio, Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale, Lanerossi and Nuova Tessil Brenta.
“ViralOff was tested on different fabrics having different compositions and we can say we are glad with the achieved results. Our sincere thanks go to the Polygiene team for their support,” commented Giorgio Todesco, CEO, Marzotto Wool Manufacturing.
The company is now running trials to ensure treatment resistance in textiles even after multiple dry and wet washes. As different compositions would have different wet pick-up, it is imperative to check and formulate recipes accordingly which is more related to the processing part of it.
“Wool would have issues as the sulphur compounds in wool and even viscose can interfere with performance. So we have supported Marzotto in developing the formulations based on fabrics,” told Vishal Bhandari, Technical Director, Polygiene to Apparel Resources.
It’s worth mentioning here that Marzotto Group, having a turnover of €450 million, is working with the world’s prestigious fashion brands and employs more than 4,000 employees in its 15 production plants.
Commenting on the partnership, Ulrika Björk, CEO, Polygiene averred that there is a rapid change in consumer behaviour which is leading the industry towards the use of more garments which are virus protected. “Some countries are now asking retailers to sanitise clothes when they have been tried on by the shoppers. ViralOff treatment protects the garment as well as reduces the need to wash and thereby increase the life of the garments. Marzotto’s new offer will redefine standards in fashion,” asserted Ulrika.
