One of the leading global sports and leisure goods retailers, DECATHLON has announced the deployment of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solutions by Checkpoint Systems at more than 400 of its stores worldwide. DECATHLON had been facing issues in improving its inventory visibility while enhancing its in-store loss prevention capabilities, to solve which, it opted for Checkpoint’s Wirama Radar technology. Wirama Radar identifies the location and direction of movement of a tagged item in-store, and additionally distinguishes if an item is simply merchandised near the exit or potentially being stolen.

DECATHLON has previously installed Checkpoint’s dual-mode EVOLVE Exclusive E10 Radio Frequency and RFID-based antennas in 19 countries while carrying out an extensive RFID source-tagging programme, as well as implementing Alpha High Theft Solutions to protect high-risk merchandise. DECATHLON’s RFID source tagging programme does not require employees to manually check deliveries or apply labels to merchandise as the items arrive in store shelf-ready. Source tagging involves Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) as the RFID labels are applied to the products during the manufacturing process itself.
“Reducing out-of-stocks is critical for retailers to compete and win in today’s challenging retail environment. With RFID-based EAS, DECATHLON reduces shrink and gains real-time insight into merchandise status to make real-time business decisions that drive new sales opportunities,” mentioned Per Levin, President and Chief Sales Officer for Shrink Management & Merchandise Visibility Solutions for Checkpoint Systems.
The RFID labels will be delivered by Checkpoint Systems to DECATHLON in five days with assurance that 100 per cent of RFID labels delivered to vendors are encoded accurately.
