Leading Indian designer Rajesh Pratap Singh has collaborated with Austrian company Lenzing’s international sustainable fibre brand TENCEL, for his upcoming collection slated to showcase at Lakme FashionWeek’s Winter Festive 2018 edition.
The path-breaking eco-collection combines the strength of TENCEL, which is cited as one of the world’s most ecological fibres, along with the indigenous magic of Indian heritage crafts. The result will be a one of its kind sustainable fashion collection that will represent innovation on a global level with green fibre and artisanal textiles.
The collection will feature Indian ethnic wear for both men and women, boasting of a modern and contemporary twist to the Indian interpretation of TENCEL weaves. Luxe fabrics and traditional techniques such as Chanderi, Benarasi, Jamdani, hand-block prints and more, will see reinterpretations of some classic artworks.
“I sincerely believe that sustainability is not niche driven fashion. It has to be inclusive and have a wider objective. It will only be effective when there are visible results and real problems are solved. The process of TENCEL™ production is a remarkable testament to what is possible through intelligent technological intervention.” Rajesh Pratap Singh said in a press release.
An exclusive preview of the collection was hosted at MASQUE in Mumbai last evening that celebrated all things sustainable – fibre, fashion and food.
Lenzing’s TENCEL™ branded lyocell fibres are extracted from natural raw wood which comes from socially and environmentally responsible forests in Europe. TENCEL™ earns its eco-friendly tag owing to its innovative closed loop production system. This special process received the European Award for the Environment from the European Union.
