One of the most sought after Indian fashion designers, Rahul Mishra had pretty much no idea if he would be able to showcase a collection when he was invited to be a guest member of the French couture organisation, Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, for the second time this summer.
He first presented his couture collection at Paris Couture Week last year.
But the designer worked towards it and out came a collection that turned heads and dropped jaws!
Rahul showcased his Autumn/Winter 2020-21 collection called ‘Butterfly People’ at the virtual Paris Haute Couture week since the physical event, scheduled to take place from 5 to 9 July 2020 in the French capital, had to be cancelled owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
While one may ask what’s the need for luxury and couture during the current unprecedented times, Rahul’s new collection is a perfect answer.
Through his latest couture designs which he presented via a film made in collaboration with filmmaker Hormis Anthony Tharkan, Rahul pays homage to the artisans that worked on the collection.
While the global lockdown left many including the craft community jobless and hopeless, the ace designer took this as an opportunity to celebrate the unsung heroes of his brand, who live and breathe their craft.
“The core idea behind the luxury we are trying to cultivate is pushing for sustainable employment of the craft community. Indeed, there is an unperturbed expression of art through our motifs, but every stitch, every knot is strongly related to the present and future of an artisan, especially hit by the pandemic – the greatest leveler, that did not see race, religion or social hierarchy, brought with itself a sea of change,” said the designer’s website.
