
The newly appointed Indian Union Textiles Minister, Smriti Irani yesterday inaugurated her first ever apparel trade show – “The 63rd National Garment Fair”, organised by The Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), at Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai.
Spread across 5,50,000 square feet, the three-day fair is witnessing participation of more than 800 brands, showcasing their latest festive collections. Red Triangle, Fox Life, Biba, Fusion Beats, Dressline, Sabhyata, KidZee, Archies, Wega Boys, Gravity, are some of the brands that are displaying their latest collections at 63rd National Garment Fair. Around 40,000 visitors are expected to attend the show.
Besides providing a glimpse of fashionable and trendy collections, the fair is also offering various business opportunities to the exhibitors through three different ‘Business Networking Sessions’ – Agents & Distributors, High Street Retailers and E-Commerce Companies, taking place alongside the event.

Furthermore, the fair features a separate ‘Bengal Pavilion’ where 25 brands from East India and East India Garment Manufacturers & Exporters Federation are showcasing their latest developments. An Iranian delegation of 12 members belonging to Teheran Garment Union are also visiting the fair to better understand the Indian market. Rahul Mehta, President, CMAI has already underscored the importance of Iran, which offers immense opportunities for Indian export with a combination of western & traditional taste.
In another development, it may be mentioned here that an Indian delegation too visited Iran and the country has agreed to reduce import duty to 20 to 25 per cent in two years, which will in turn prove beneficial for the Indian market.
