Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) is collaborating with Indian Ministry of Textiles to organise an R&D Conclave in Coimbatore soon. The event will aim to give commercial value to the research-based products of various ‘Indian textile research associations’.
A senior person associated with TEA informed Apparel Resources that the R&D Conclave will benefit all the stakeholders of the Indian textile industry as well as the research associations as they don’t have such a platform yet which can connect them with the industry directly.
The planned R&D Conclave is being viewed as a support to the Indian research associations as their products will be displayed at the event and hence, commercialised. This will attract the textile and apparel manufacturers and push them to explore how these products can be promoted in the Indian and overseas markets.
The entire industry and research associations will also get an opportunity to exchange views about their existing and upcoming research projects to make the products more viable from the industry perspective.
T. R. Vijaya Kumar, General Secretary, TEA and MD of CBC Fashions Asia, Tirupur stated, “It is a part of our initiative to create awareness. This R&D Conclave is our joint effort with MOT. We are calling all the R&D associations of India. Their products, as well as innovative technology, will be displayed at this upcoming R&D Conclave. As of now, no such joint initiative was taken. So, TEA requested MOT in this regard. We also had meetings with some research associations and they were enthusiastic about this initiative.”
Funded by the Government of India and covering various aspects of research and development related to textile products, there are eight such textile research associations under Ministry of Textiles: Northern India Textile Research Association (NITRA), Ghaziabad; The Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA), Mumbai; South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), Coimbatore; Ahmedabad Textile Industry’s Research Association (ATIRA); Wool Research Association, Mumbai; Indian Jute Industries’ Research Association (IJIRA), Kolkata; Man-Made Textile Research Association (MANTRA), Surat; and The Synthetic & Art Silk Mills’ Research Association (SASMIRA), Mumbai.
