
The Indian apparel body Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) has welcomed Tamil Nadu government’s decision to organize an international textile fair in the state in November, saying that the move will boost the textile sextor in the state.
The textile industry in the state was exporting about Rs 45,000 crore worth products annually and the fair would help in increasing the exports.The event would help textile traders display their products, penetrate new markets and add new buyers.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has announced to conduct the fair at Codissia Trade Fair Complex, Coimbatore, with an expense of Rs 2 crore.
“Such kind of fair in the state, a major player in the country’s textile value chain, is a welcome move,” stated Tiruppur Exporters’ Association (TEA) president Raja M Shanmugham.
Shanmugham also thanked Phanindra Reddy, Secretary, Handlooms, Handicrafts, Textiles & Khadi Department, for his efforts in orgamising the event in the state.
Coimbatore, popularly known as “the Textile Capital of South India”, houses a large number of small, medium and large textile mills, along with a number of textile research institutes. The city is counted among the most industrially developed and commercially vibrant districts in Tamil Nadu.
