Active in Bangladesh for the past 15 years, China-based Zhejiang Gemsy Mechanical & Electrical Company has already installed sewing machines worth US $ 15 million in Bangladesh since its inception with its sales having increased by 40%, compared to last year. “When we first set foot in the country, it was dominated by Japanese sewing machine suppliers but now we are giving serious competition to them due to our great service network and the performance of our machines,” said Ruan Xiaoming, Chairman, Zhejiang Gemsy Mechanical & Electrical Company. Gemsy’s single needle lockstitch machines with under-bed trimmer have gained the company wide popularity in Bangladesh. “The real edge of our sewing machines are its integration of mechanical and electrical equipment, which enable the machine to perform in a much more consistent manner to deliver better productivity and improved quality,” he adds.
Agreeing to the fact that the after-sales service and technical support to the industry are most critical, Ruan Xiaoming added, “Not only are we giving prompt service to our customers, we are also regularly sending our technical staff to train the in-house technicians of our customers for preventive maintenance and optimum utilization of our machines.” Apart from having a team of both local and Chinese technicians, Gemsy also keeps a stock of essential spare parts at its training and service centre in Dhaka, in collaboration with its sole agent, Three Star Trading. “Keeping customer requirements and demands at the core of our operations in the country, we have hired 10 local technicians with one resident Chinese technician in Bangladesh,” avers Ruan Xiaoming.
Gemsy is also undertaking a lot of projects for replacement of old sewing machines with new ones which are equipped with under-bed trimmer and energy-efficient servo motor. “Companies like Birds Group will buy nearly 3,000 sewing machines from Gemsy by the end of this year for their new project and similar projections are on with SIMCO Group, who would be putting up a 24 line woven project,” informs Sarder Elias Hossain, Proprietor, Three Star Trading. Birds Group, Simco Group and Oriental Group are some of the big customers of Gemsy.
