Organised by Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) and GartexTexprocess India, virtual conference on ‘Rebooting the Textile & Apparel Industry’ highlighted that future is positive but textile and apparel industry need to be on their toes.
Maximum use of technology and focus on sustainability were also stressed upon by the experts.
Arvind Singhal, Chairman, Technopak Advisors, started the event with the idea how the industry will shape up in next 10 years and what we need to do.
Dr. K.S. Sundararaman, Chairman, Indian Technical Textile Association (ITTA), highlighted that electronic clothing will dominate in the next 10 years and products made from biodegradable waste will be in demand.
Ronak Rughani, Chairman, The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), insisted that Indian brands should explore overseas markets as so far there is not even a single Indian brand that is globally well known.
Dr. A. Sakthivel, Chairman, Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), believed that in the next few years India will be better position to lead in the export of MMF-based garments.
Technical experts highlighted how fashion industries can change with digitisation. Ram Sareen, Chairman & Founder, Tukatech shared that in order to adjust to the new normal every company will now have a shorter supply chain – smaller quantities with more frequencies.
Companies for this should look at the areas where they are wasting their time and resources like sampling. Every company should first try to get their processes right before investing in technologies like AI, big data, etc.
Looking at the imbalance in purchasing policies, the need is to reduce supply and base it more on demand. Experts were of the opinion that major changes would be greater collaborations along with the supply chain and also regional collaborations.
Session on Brand and Retail – Emerging Scenario in Textiles & Apparel highlighted the need for omni-channel retailing and the emergence of other channels apart from e-commerce.
