
The national capital of India, New Delhi is set to again host the India International Silk Fair (IISF), which will enter its sixth edition, this time. The event will be inaugurated by Union Textile Minister Smriti Zubin Irani on 16 October 2018. Minister of State for Textiles, Ajay Tamta will also mark his presence during the fair.
IISF is a three-day event where more than 100 exhibitors of silk and blended silk will showcase their expertise and products at the fair. “The fair will provide a platform to exporters to display their products and to foreign buyers, an opportunity to place orders and source their merchandise,” the ministry said.
Artisans from Jammu and Kashmir and North East region will be the notable exhibitors at the event and are expected to attract buyers with the portfolio of their unique and traditional products.
The textile ministry is expecting a business of around US $ 20 million from the upcoming event for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) who manufacture silk and blended silk clothing, fabrics, accessories and floor covering.
Furthermore, the Central Silk Board will offer a Theme Pavilion displaying the future vision of the country’s silk industry. The fair is open to only buyers, sellers and invited visitors.
Reportedly, India is the second largest producer of silk globally and it is home to about 8 million artisans and weavers in the rural areas.
