
The Global Denim Awards recently took place at Denim City, Amsterdam’s new denim innovation campus. Coincided with the Kingpins’ Amsterdam trade show, the first edition of the award show saw six designers competing in teams (composed of one designer and one denim producer) for the top spot. Dutch fashion designer Jonathan Christopher won the award for being the most innovative designer with his association with the Italian manufacturer ITV Denim, which was founded in 1972 and offers a fully vertically organized production, using the most advanced techniques of spinning, dyeing, weaving and finishing. Other teams who vied; Fernanda Fernandes with the Spaniards at Tejidos Royo, and Anneloes van Osselaer; British designer Bhavesh Samji and Turkish company Orta Anadolu; Stefano Ughetti and Italian manufacturer Candiani Denim; and designer Gizem Turan and manufacturer Bossa.
