The latest fashion week event, Lakmē Fashion Week witnessed a cross-cultural fusion fashion as the Fashion Week collaborated with the Fashion Design Council of India and the winners from Fashion Trust Arabia (FTA) presented their latest collections in fashion designing. The collection displayed a partnership between India and the Arab world, following the announcement that India will be FTA’s Guest Country in 2025.
Three FTA designers showcased their own styles on the runway, pertaining to the latest fashion trends. Salim Azzam’s collection included exquisite embroidery, motifs influenced by butterflies, and opulent silk and denim materials to honor Lebanese mountain culture. His creations showcased classic country craftsmanship enhanced with threads of gold and silver.
By fusing traditional attire with trendy streetwear, Kazna Asker provided a contemporary version of Yemeni heritage. In order to address themes of migration and cultural shift, her collection featured woven textiles, cargo pants, and track suits with flocked detailing, digital designs, and Bedouin inspirations.
Yousef Akbar’s creations, which included flowing tulle and taffeta, dramatic shapes, and sparkling gold orchids, were influenced by surrealism. His eveningwear line was geared toward red carpet appearances.
Tania Fares, co-chair of FTA, expressed her excitement about India’s selection as the 2025 Guest Country, supported by the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre. She emphasised the initiative’s commitment to highlighting India’s artistic heritage and supporting local talent.
Launched in 2021, the FTA initiative aims to promote international creative exchange by providing mentorship, financial aid, and industry access to emerging designers. The Guest Country initiative will conclude in Doha in November 2025, symbolizing a strengthening creative and commercial relationship between India and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
