The Railways is one of the important modes of logistics and slowly its benefit to the Indian textile industry is also increasing.
Panipat, a leading home furnishing hub,now has a chance to benefit from the Indian Railways, as in a latest development, a container trial train loaded with yarn reached from Vapi (Gujarat) to Panipat in 38 hours, while through road it used to take almost 65-70 hours.
The companies in Panipat will enjoy the benefit of a 10 percent in freight. This initiative will not only reduce the costand save time, but is also sustainable as compared to road, rail transportation requires less fuel. Notably, so far, goods to Panipat are mainly coming via road only.
All these, consequently, will help Panipat’s industry become more competitive.
Welcoming the move, Preetam Sachdeva, President, Panipat Exporters’ Association, said that this move will help the Panipat industry a lot.
It is worth mentioning here that almost a year back Ludhiana-based textile companies had also started exporting yarn, goods via train to Bangladesh.
Just two months back, the Mumbai Center Division of Western Railways loaded the 100th textile train from Chalthan in Surat to Sankrail in Kharagpur Division of South Eastern Railways.
