The workers of the now closed Ms Shine Fashion Company (PVT) Ltd., which was based out of the Dhaka EPZ (DEPZ), have started receiving their outstanding salary from the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA).
According to a press release issued in this direction, around Taka 30.02 crore arrears would be paid to the workers in phases even if DEPZ Executive Director Abdus Sobhan recently handed over to some workers pay orders of their outstanding salaries and other benefits.
The remaining workers will get their arrears in their bank accounts, claimed the press report.
It may be mentioned here the management of Ms Shine Fashion Company (PVT) Ltd. announced the closure of the unit in 2020 after failing to pay wages of 2,083 workers while the BEPZA on its part terminated the land lease agreement with the factory on 1 December 2020 while assuring it would make arrangements to pay workers’ dues.
