
In the first quarter (Jan.-Mar.) of 2018, Bangladesh exported denim apparels worth US $ 96.27 million to the US. On the yearly note, the country got a boost of 15.51 per cent.
After analysing the data released by OTEXA, Apparel Resources concluded that denim trousers for Men and Boys (MB) were once again the largest contributor to Bangladesh’ denim exports to the US.
Denim trousers export in the said period stood at US $ 50.69 million (up 22.07 per cent), beating China’s export value in the same category that stood at US $ 41.30 million.
Despite performing well in the denim segment, Bangladesh remained well behind Mexico which continued its dominance in the MB denim trousers export to the US. With US $ 148.24 million MB denim trousers exports, Mexico topped the denim exporters tally.
On the other hand, exports of denim trousers for Women and Girls (WG) from Bangladesh was worth US $ 41.89 million, up 10.70 per cent from the same quarter of 2017.
However, denim jackets remained the negative category for Bangladesh. Against US $ 1.95 million value in the first three months of 2017, Bangladesh plummeted by 1.08 per cent to earn US $ 1.928 million in January to March 2018 period.
Markedly, denim skirts too witnessed a drop. On the Y-o-Y basis, denim skirts fell 12.87 per cent in January to March 2018 as shipments to the US valued just US $ 1.767 million as against shipment value of US $ 2.028 million in the corresponding period last year.
