Bangladesh and South Korea have a great deal of potential to gain more from their collaboration in trade, particularly in the apparel and textile industries, said Faruque Hassan, President of BGMEA.
He made these remarks during a meeting with South Korea’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Lee Jang-keun, who paid BGMEA a courtesy call on 16th January. “There are huge opportunities for Bangladesh and South Korea to further engage in trade and investment and develop mutually beneficial economic ties,” he expressed.
The conference was also attended by Shams Mahmud, managing director of Shasha Denims Ltd., first secretary of the South Korean Embassy Lee Jungyoul, former president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), and vice presidents of the BGMEA Shahidullah Azim and Miran Ali.
They deliberated about potential areas for economic growth between South Korea and Bangladesh as well as how both countries may constructively cooperate to open up fresh possibilities for trade.
BGMEA President Fauque Hassan requested Ambassador Lee Jang-keun to persuade Korean businessmen to invest in the backward linkage industry of Bangladesh, especially the non-cotton textile sector.
The Korean envoy brought up the idea of providing RMG manufacturers inside the export processing zone (EPZ) with incentives in exchange for their shipments to new markets.
In addition to expressing gratitude to the Korean Ambassador for his visit, Faruque Hassan, President of the BGMEA, also expressed interest in working together to boost trade between the two Asian countries.
