Seeking increased highway security, Faruque Hassan, the President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has said thefts of apparel items on highways are becoming a serious problem for the country’s apparel exporters.
The BGMEA President stated this while addressing a press conference in the capital city Dhaka recently, even as he advocated stringent penalties for people involved in such acts on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway.
“If necessary the law should be amended to make tough provisions to punish the thieves,” maintained Faruque, who further went on to claim about 20-22 cases of theft which occurred in 2022 alone while also adding gangs are committing the same crime over and over again and getting away with them without any punishment.
