Wool manufacturers of Tasmania are witnessing a fall in premiums by 96 per cent since 2001. The result behind the plunge is that there has been a glut of fine wool, coupled with global trends changing; leading to less demand for fine wool. A report suggests that the centralisation of wool processing in China, and a shrinking market for fine wool created a decline in demand during the ‘go fine’ expansion. Tasmania has been producing the best-quality wool in the world for over 180 years.
