
1,700 workers of W&D (Cambodia) Co, Phnom Penh apparel factory returned to work after management agreed to several concessions. The operators were on strike for the last two weeks. Sous Daro, President of the Cambodian Workers Union Federation at W&D said, “Factory has agreed to drop criminal complaints against union representatives and we agreed to end the strike after the company agreed to withdraw its complaint against 13 union members in the factory, who were accused of provoking a protest and damage of factory property.” Garment Manufacturers Association in Cambodia (GMAC) claims that the number of strikes fell by more than 25 per cent, from 147 in 2013 to 108 in 2014. The number of lost work days fell by even more, from 889,000 to 513,000, a decrease of about 40 per cent.
