The SME Foundation of Bangladesh has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) to help the SMEs (small and medium enterprises) raise up to Taka 30 crore in funds from the capital market for business expansion.
The Managing Director of SME Foundation Md. Mafizur Rahman and the Managing Director of the DSE Tarique Amin Bhuiyan signed the agreement on behalf of their respective entities.
“…this opportunity will undoubtedly usher in a new era for the SME sector,” reportedly, underlined Md. Mafizur Rahman after the signing ceremony while adding that simply signing the MoU was not enough as it now needs to be successfully implemented, even as the DSE MD on his part added, “At present, there is an opportunity to raise capital ranging from Taka 5 crore to Taka 30 crore,” while adding the change in definition of SMEs will further increase the amount.
The SME Foundation Chairman further added the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission or BSEC has framed rules to allow SME entrepreneurs to raise capital from the market even as DSE Chairman Eunusur Rahman on his part stated that the Government has announced a two-phase stimulus package for the SMEs amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic but most of them were unable to get the benefit due to various complications.
