
Manila-based lender Asian Development Bank (ADB), which recently participated in a tripartite review meeting in Dhaka for stocktaking of 14 ongoing projects that are allegedly facing implementation delays in different stages, reportedly expressed its ‘unhappiness’ over the slow execution of projects in the country.

“Slow-progressing and problematic projects, struggling for delays due to different reasons, were discussed at the meeting. We have mainly tried to find out ways for removing the problems,” reportedly maintained a senior official at the Economic Relations Division (ERD), who participated in the Tripartite Portfolio Review Meeting (TPRM), co-chaired by Bangladesh Country Director for ADB, Kazuhiko Higuchi and Joint Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of Bangladesh, Saifuddin Ahmed.

The TPRM reportedly also discussed readiness of pipeline projects in the 2016-2017 period, besides prioritising actions to achieve the targets. It may be mentioned here that until May 10, 2016, the ADB-funded projects under implementation for Bangladesh involves 82 loans and grants amounting to US $6.0 billion and 28 technical-assistance projects amounting to US $ 29.4 million. The ADB is supporting in fields including energy and power, transport, water and urban or municipal infrastructure and services, education, finance and agriculture, natural resources, and rural development.
“The review intends to help further accelerate project implementation, and achieve better and faster development results,” reportedly stated ADB Country Director Higuchi.
