In a meeting with Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Minister of Karnataka Textiles and Sugarcane Development Shivanand S Patil requested him to establish a PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Mega Textile Park in Vijayapura.
The Minister also asked the Union Minister to establish a centre of excellence at Vijayapura to conduct textile research and development projects.
The construction of PM-Mega Textile Park in Kalaburgi has already received approval from the Union Textile Ministry. There will be about 14 investors in the project, which will be a public-private partnership.
According to sources, Patil urged the centre to finish the process at a meeting with the Union Minister so that investors may visit and invest in the giant textile park as soon as possible.
Karnataka is a multi-product export centre for fabrics and garments of all kinds, according to Patil, who is requesting extra programmes and funding for the state to support the textile industry.
“It exports approximately US $ 2 billion worth of textile products to more than 40 countries. Textile value chain is spread across the state giving equal employment opportunities across the state,” he said. Richard Vincent D’Souza, Secretary to Textile and MSME was also present at the meeting.
