
Romania, over the course of time, has improved trade balance with Pakistan in various sectors with special emphasis on textiles and textile products. At the meet with the industry-people of Pakistan, Romanian Envoy Emilian Ion stressed on developing greater ties between the two counties by tapping the unchartered terrains in various sectors of the economy. According to Emilian, Pakistan textile sector offers tremendous trade opportunities and still much is needed to be explored in the country. Although, trade relation amid Romania and Pakistan have been valuable without a shadow of doubt but the bilateral trade needs to be boosted, seeing the stiff competition in the sector.

Pakistani textile exporters are concentrating on European and American markets for long and Pakistan’s home textiles & made-ups have created a niche in these markets. Welcoming Emilian Ion, PTEA (Pakistan Textile Exporters Association) Chief Asghar Ali said, “Romania is an important trading partner of Pakistan and both the countries urge to develop bilateral trade. Nurturing a perfect relationship the two agreed upon having more bilateral trade avenues while appreciating the Romanian Government’s support for a secured GSP Plus status.
Both have agreed to take the Romanian-Pakistan relations to the next level and plans to have a surge in the bilateral as well as EU level.”
The EU’s “Generalised Scheme of Preferences” (GSP) allows developing country exporters to pay less or no duties on their exports to the EU. This gives them vital access to EU markets and contributes to their economic growth.
