Despite completion of construction work on 15 July 2022, the Patenga Container Terminal (PCT) of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) could not start operation as the authority concerned had not yet selected an operator.
This was claimed by media reports, citing sources, according to which, the multi-billion Taka terminal is yet to start the operational activities and is waiting for the last one month for an operator to do so as the Shipping Ministry had not yet decided who will run the newly-built terminal.
Work of the PCT — when operational, can host at a time three container-carrying ships with each 190 metres in length and having 9.5 metres draft even as an oil tanker of 290 metres in length can also simultaneously take berth at the Dolphin Jetty of the PCT — started five years ago at project cost of Taka 1,868 crore and was completed on 15 July and scheduled to go into operation by 20 July 2022.
