Canada’s apparel imports in October 2024 amounted to US $ 942.30 million, marking a sharp 17.81 per cent decline compared to the previous month but a modest 6.33 per cent growth year-over-year.
According to official statistics which were analysed by team Apparel Resources, among major exporters, China, with US $ 256 million worth of apparel exports to Canada, saw a significant 28 per cent M-o-M drop and a 2.47 per cent decline year-over-year in October.
Other countries, including Bangladesh (US $ 126.34 million), Cambodia (US $ 124.50 million), Indonesia (US $ 34.98 million), Vietnam (US $ 150 million), and India (US $ 22.51 million), also recorded monthly shipment declines to Canada, though all showed positive growth on an annual basis.
Cumulatively from January to October 2024, Canada imported apparel worth US $ 9.19 billion, noting a 1.57 per cent yearly decline.
India, despite recent political issues with Canada, has upped its shipment to the North American country by 4.34 per cent valuing US $ 264 million in the 10-month period of 2024. On the other hand, Bangladesh also increased its apparel exports to Canada to US $ 412.51 million – up 5.39 per cent.
