The Europe Bangladesh Federation of Commerce and Industry (EBFCI) has appointed Mohammad Ali as its Director and Country Head for Bangladesh, a move expected to strengthen trade relations and expand cooperation between Bangladesh and the European Union (EU).
Ali formally received his certificate of directorship at an inauguration ceremony held in Dhaka, on 25th June. The event was attended by EBFCI President Dr. Wali Tasar Uddin MBE DBA JP, who presented the certificate, along with Foreign Secretary Asad Islam and EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller.
In his new role, Ali will oversee EBFCI’s operations in Bangladesh and serve as the federation’s representative in its engagements with the Government of Bangladesh, the EU delegation, and the embassies and high commissions of EU member states. He is tasked with ensuring that EBFCI’s work aligns with its organisational protocols while building stronger business and investment partnerships.
EBFCI works as a platform to promote trade, investment, and industrial cooperation between Bangladesh and Europe. It plays an important role in facilitating dialogue between European buyers and Bangladeshi exporters, encouraging joint ventures, and promoting compliance with international standards. The readymade garment sector, which dominates Bangladesh’s export basket to the EU, stands to gain the most from EBFCI’s initiatives. By fostering stronger buyer-supplier relations, easing market access, and supporting diversification, the federation’s engagement is expected to help apparel exporters maintain their competitiveness, particularly as Bangladesh prepares to graduate from its least developed country status.
Mohammad Ali, who is also Chairman of Alif’s Engineering, has a diverse professional background covering hospitality, manufacturing, engineering, sales, and marketing. He began his career in the hospitality sector, quickly rising to become one of the youngest general managers in the industry, before expanding into business ventures in engineering solutions, furniture manufacturing, and interior design. Alongside his business pursuits, he remains active in community initiatives through the Rotary Club Uttara and Junior Chamber International (JCI).
His appointment is widely seen as a strategic step by EBFCI to expand its presence in Bangladesh. With his leadership experience and wide professional network, Ali is expected to play a key role in enhancing EBFCI’s contribution to the country’s trade and investment landscape, particularly in strengthening the RMG sector’s integration with European markets.
