As the Bangladeshi apparel sector grapples with the land scarcity issue for local and foreign investors alike, leaders from the associations are suggesting handing over of unutilized land of state-owned enterprises to the private sector.
Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, President, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) told a leading Bangladeshi daily “Now I am at Cox’s Bazar with two Japanese entrepreneurs. They want to invest in the service sector, but aren’t getting land.” Similarly many local and foreign companies come to the Board of Investment (BoI) and show interest to invest in Bangladesh but face hurdles in getting land in suitable locations, costing the country Tk 90 billion last year.
