Indian apparel imports have continued picking up and the same have reached US $ 920.91 million during Jan.-Oct. ’21 period, as revealed by Ministry of Commerce and Industry…
The imports have grown by 28.84 per cent and a revival in the demand for knitted garment segment can clearly be seen in the statistics.
During Jan.-Oct. ’20 period, imports of knitted garments fell by 30.52 per cent on Y-o-Y basis to US $ 288.91 million, whereas, in the corresponding period of 2021, the imports got a boost of 53.94 per cent and valued US $ 444.74 million.
As analysed further by Apparel Resources, the import value of knitted garments went past the pre-pandemic level. During the first 10-month period of 2019, knitted garment import had valued at US $ 415.83 million.
On the other hand, the import of woven garments reached US $ 476.17 million in Jan.-Oct. ’21, growing by 11.82 per cent on Y-o-Y basis. The growth rate wasn’t good enough to beat the import values registered in pre-pandemic times when woven clothing imports were US $ 556.50 million.
