Trading between Bangladesh and India through Benapole, which is the biggest trade channel between the two countries, resumed on Sunday after India allowed goods from the former to enter its territory.
As per reports, at least five trucks carrying apparel items from Bangladesh entered India on Sunday while those carrying raw materials from India also made it to Bangladesh without any hiccups.
Monday onwards, business across the Benapole-Petrapole land ports will be back to normal, underlined the port authorities.
It may be mentioned here that earlier exporters from Bangladesh had blocked imports from India after authorities across the border reportedly refused to allow trucks from Bangladesh to enter the India territory on account of COVID-19 concerns.
The resumption of trade, which follows the reversal of the decision by the West Bengal Government and allow goods-laden truck from Bangladesh to enter India, has been a result of parleys through official channels, especially efforts by India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Home Ministry and the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, claimed some media reports in India.
