As Cambodian garment workers continue to seek a US $ 77 monthly hike, Cham Prasidh, Minister of Handicrafts and Industry proposed that the US, one of its leading importers of garments, emulates countries that have relaxed duties towards developing countries such as Cambodia. While addressing the parliament, Prasidh said the country exported garments worth US $ 5 billion in 2013 and paid US $ 500 million as import duties to the United States. “It is so unjust for us. It means that we have been helping US with US $ 500 million,” added Prasidh.
